The start of a new year is often met with a mix of emotions. While many look forward to fresh beginnings, January can also bring the "blues" for some. The shorter days, colder weather, and post-holiday lull can contribute to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), leaving us feeling a bit out of sorts. But don’t worry! There are plenty of ways to lift your spirits, embrace the new year with positivity, and boost your confidence — starting with self-care and, of course, your hair.
What Are the January Blues?
The January Blues are a common phenomenon characterized by low mood, lack of energy, and a general feeling of melancholy. These feelings are often linked to shorter daylight hours and the pressures of setting (and sticking to) New Year’s resolutions. For some, these symptoms may be part of SAD, a type of depression that typically occurs during the winter months.
If you’re feeling the weight of winter, here are some actionable steps to help brighten your mood and prepare for the year ahead:
- Prioritise Self-Care
Self-care is more than a buzzword; it’s an essential part of maintaining mental and physical well-being. Simple actions like getting enough sleep, eating nutritious foods, and staying hydrated can have a profound impact on your mood.
- Get Moving
Physical activity is a proven mood booster. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a yoga session, swimming or any other activity, moving your body releases endorphins that help counteract feelings of sadness and lethargy.
Curious if you can work out while wearing a wig or hairpiece? The answer is absolutely yes! Discover helpful tips and options in one of our previous blogs here.
We also recommend trying exercise-friendly headwear if you would prefer not to wear you wig to exercise. They are designed with both style and comfort in mind. Browse our headwear collection here.
- Find the right solution for you
For many people, hair is a powerful confidence booster and investing in it can make a world of difference. If you are at the beginning of your hair loss journey, seeking help from a hair loss specialist could be a great first step. We offer consultations in our salons with experienced professionals who can help find the right solution for you. Whether that be helping with scalp care and hair regrowth or finding the perfect wig or hairpiece, we are here to help. Book a consultation with us here
- Set Realistic Resolutions
Instead of overwhelming yourself with unrealistic goals, focus on small, attainable resolutions that bring joy and satisfaction. Whether it’s learning a new skill, dedicating time to a hobby, or improving your hair care routine, every step forward counts.
- Surround Yourself with Positivity
Connect with loved ones, surround yourself with uplifting media, and spend time doing things that make you happy. If you are going through hair loss, at Aderans we hold regular workshops and support groups where you can connect with like-minded people. We have 7 salons across the UK, find a group near you here.
