Travelling_in_wigs_-_aderans_uk_2

With summer approaching, many of you will be starting to book in your holidays. With that in mind we wanted to take you through some of the considerations while traveling and wearing a wig or hairpiece.

Travelling with a wig should not be difficult, but there are a few things you can do to ensure a smooth journey, especially when passing through airport security.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • No need to remove your wig: Rest assured, wearing a wig should not pose any significant issues during security checks. When passing through airport security, you may be required to undergo a pat-down or pass through a metal detector or body scanner. Typically, wigs do not contain any metal components that could trigger alarms.
  • If your wig has metal ear tabs, there is a small possibility these could show up on the scanner, if this happens you can inform the security officer discreetly that you are wearing a wig, they are trained to deal with these situations quickly and respectfully.
  • Securing your wig: If you’re concerned about discomfort or adjustment, you can wear a wig cap or wonderband to help secure your wig in place.
  • If you plan to take a wig on holiday but won’t be wearing one to the airport - you may want to use a protective wig travel bag or silk pillowcase to keep your wig safe during your flight. These offer extra protection from tangling or damage and can help keep your wig in its best condition. If you take a silk pillowcase, you can also use this when you arrive at your destination to prevent friction frizz on your hair when you sleep… They are also amazing for your skin!

A few more top tips for your holiday…

  • Take a collapsible wig stand with you. They are super lightweight and ideal for travelling
  • If you own an older wig, pack this for the beach/swimming, this way you don’t have to worry about styling one for the evenings.
  • Consider temporary transfer eyebrows, they are waterproof and have great durability!
  • Try the Halo wig. This is great for keeping cool on holiday, simply add your favourite hat or headwear to complete the look.
  • Human hair wigs are a great option if you want to swim on holiday or get involved in water activities. Just like bio hair, human hair wigs can be washed, styled, and treated with care products to keep them in good condition. You can also swim in synthetic hair wigs, however they may not hold up as well as human hair wigs. Chlorine, saltwater, and even freshwater can damage synthetic fibres, causing them to tangle, frizz, or lose their shape. Before taking the plunge, it's essential to check the care instructions or contact your stylist for recommendations. Regardless of the type of wig you choose, it's crucial to secure your wig properly before swimming. We would recommend using wig tape.

If you ever have concerns about airport policies, we recommend checking with your airline or reviewing TSA guidelines for medical equipment and personal care items before you travel.
