Are you considering wearing a wig on your next holiday but feeling hesitant about whether it’s the right choice? Wearing a wig while travelling can be daunting, especially if you're unsure about its practicality, durability, and how it fits into various holiday activities. From swimming in the ocean to navigating airport security, there are certain factors to consider…

Can I swim in a wig?

One of the main concerns for wig wearers is whether they can enjoy water activities like swimming while wearing a wig. The answer? It depends...

Human hair wigs are a great option if you want to swim on holiday or get involved in water activities. Just like bio hair, human hair wigs can be washed, styled, and treated with care products to keep them in good condition.

You can also swim in synthetic hair wigs, however they may not hold up as well as human hair wigs. Chlorine, saltwater, and even freshwater can damage synthetic fibres, causing them to tangle, frizz, or lose their shape. Before taking the plunge, it's essential to check the care instructions or contact your stylist for recommendations.

Regardless of the type of wig you choose, it's crucial to secure your wig properly before swimming. We would recommend using wig tape.

Navigating Airport Security…

Rest assured, wearing a wig should not pose any significant issues during security checks.

When passing through airport security, you may be required to undergo a pat-down or pass through a metal detector or body scanner. Typically, wigs do not contain any metal components that could trigger alarms. However, if you're concerned about the security screening process, you can inform the security officer discreetly that you are wearing a wig.

Embracing wearing a wig on holiday…

Ultimately, wearing a wig on holiday is a personal choice that should align with your comfort level and preferences. Whether you choose to swim in your wig, explore new destinations, or simply relax by the pool, there are ways to make the experience enjoyable and stress-free.

Before jetting off on your next adventure, take the time to research and select a wig that suits your lifestyle and travel plans. Consider factors such as wig material, construction, and maintenance requirements to ensure that your wig will withstand the demands of holiday activities.

Top tips for travelling…

  • Take a collapsible wig stand with you. They are super lightweight and ideal for travelling
  • If you own an older wig, pack this for the beach/swimming, this way you don’t have to worry about styling one for the evenings.
  • If you are taking two wigs away, pack your spare in a silk pillowcase. This will prevent friction frizz in your bag and you can put it on your pillow when you get to the hotel.
  • Consider temporary transfer eyebrows, they are waterproof and have great durability!
  • Try the Halo wig. This is great for keeping cool on holiday, simply add your favourite hat or headwear.

Remember, wearing a wig is just one aspect of your holiday experience. Focus on creating lasting memories, embracing new experiences, and enjoying the journey, wig and all.
