To raise awareness of the risks associated with poor waste disposal practices, and how to best avoid such risks.

Scope and Compliance

The policy applies to all employees, contractors, consultants and other workers at Aderans UK Limited and its subsidiaries, including all personnel affiliated with third parties.

The policy applies to the disposal of all materials used by Aderans UK Limited.

All persons described above should exercise good judgement regarding disposal of waste and recycling in accordance with Aderans UK Limited policies and standards and local law and regulations.

Non-compliance with policy, deliberate or accidental, may result in disciplinary proceedings for our employees.

General recycling

With our goal in mind to minimise the company’s impact on the environment in regard to disposal of materials it is the company’s policy that as many materials as possible should be recycled where there is provision to do so. Employee responsibilities:

- Site managers seek advice from local councils to ascertain what waste can be recycled and how this is carried out and to display/create signage and/or provide information to employees on site with instructions on how and what to recycle. Most councils have extensive information on their websites as a valuable resource for waste disposal and recycling. A mixed recycling bin for Head Office is held and this is emptied by the cleaner into the communal trade recycling bins provided for the building by the council and any waste that cannot be recycled is placed in another bin which is emptied by the cleaner into the communal trade waste bins.

- All employees are encouraged by management to consider what they are disposing of in general household waste and whether or not this can be recycled by either checking with the local council and/or by checking with their line manager if there are no displayed instructions on site, before placing it in the bin.

Paper recycling

It is the company’s policy that all waste paper should be recycled. If wastepaper contains any personal data this must be treated as confidential waste and must be disposed of in line with company’s procedures around GDPR. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy & Security.

Any physical data classed as sensitive personal data which needs to be disposed of (i.e. data consisting of racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, genetic data, biometric data, data concerning health (i.e. VAT Exemption Forms) or data concerning a natural person's sex life or sexual orientation) and any sensitive financial data such as debit/credit card information taken manually on site at time of payment (once payment has been approved), is shredded immediately on site using a paper shredder. The shred waste is emptied from the shredder and placed in a blue paper recycling sack, which is collected by paper recycling company Brighton Paper Round. All bulk wastepaper containing any other personal data i.e. name, address, telephone number is placed in a red paper recycling sack which is sealed and recorded and securely shredded by Brighton Paper Round within their own facility.

Cardboard recycling

We encourage that cardboard is recycled wherever possible. Brighton Paper Round conduct weekly collections from our Head Office and Warehouse of any waste cardboard for recycling.

Recycling batteries and other electrical Items

Batteries and electrical items should always be recycled. Site managers seek advice from local councils to find out about recycling such items locally.

Batteries and electrical items for head office are stored and taken to designated drop-off points across the city for recycling.

Non-recyclable non-household waste

For all non-recyclable non-household waste site managers contact their local councils to find out how it can be disposed of safely.

Fly-tipping (leaving waste items in an undesignated public place) is illegal. Any member of staff found to be caught not disposing of company waste correctly will face disciplinary action.

Wigs

As our products go through rigorous quality checking procedures, any that fail quality checking that would otherwise need to be disposed of are cleaned and donated to charities, wig banks, drama/theatrical schools, schools and nurseries and/or are used for training and promotional purposes. Any such donations are authorised by senior management at Head Office before being donated. Due to the nature of the construction of the wigs we sell we cannot recycle them locally.

ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS IN THAI FACTORY

The use of waste materials

At our Thai factory, one of our manufacturing centres for the Aderans Group, considerations were made to eliminate waste by using the scrap materials produced during the manufacturing of wigs effectively. Efforts are being made for various experimental products, such as artificial flowers, car wipes, cushions, and sandals. The artificial flowers are currently being used for such uses as floral bouquets to present to local retirees.

Tree-Planting at our Factory in Thailand

Our Thai factory sell the waste materials produced during the manufacturing process of our wigs to recycling companies and use the proceeds to plant trees on our factory grounds.

HIS CHURCH CHARITY

His Church Charity contacted us and asked if we could donate any old, discontinued or faulty wigs to them to support their project of supporting vulnerable women but giving them clothes, make-up, jewellery and personal supplies. They receive these items through various organisations ranging from women's aid to hospices, homeless centres to prisons. We were more than happy to donate any old wigs to the charity.
