If you are new to the wig-wearing world, you might be wondering about maintenance and how to keep your wig clean. In this blog, we will teach you how to wash your synthetic hair wig to ensure it stays in the best condition!

Before diving into the washing process, it's essential to understand the nature of synthetic wigs. Unlike human hair, synthetic fibres require special care to maintain their texture and appearance. Synthetic wigs can't withstand high temperatures like human hair wigs, so traditional washing techniques must be adapted to suit their needs.

What you will need:

  • Fibre Hair Shampoo
  • Fibre Hair Conditioner
  • Soft & Sheen Conditioning Spray
  • Wig Brush
  • Towel

Step-by-Step Guide:

  • Start by gently detangling your wig using a specialized wig brush. Work from the ends upwards, gradually removing knots and tangles. Be gentle to avoid damaging the fibres.
  • Fill a sink with warm water. Avoid using hot water as it can damage synthetic fibres. Gently soak your wig in the water.
  • Add a small amount of fibre hair shampoo to your hand and apply in sections to the root of your wig blending down. Pay special attention to areas that accumulate dirt, such as the nape and around the ears. Put the wig back into the water and leave to soak for 1-2 minutes. Repeat this step twice for a double cleanse.
  • Once you have shampooed the wig, carefully rinse it under cool running water until all the product is removed. Ensure there is no residue left, as this can weigh down the fibres and make the wig appear dull.
  • After rinsing, apply a small amount of fibre hair conditioner to the wig, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. Gently comb through the wig with your fingers to distribute the conditioner evenly.
  • Rinse the wig thoroughly under cool water to remove the conditioner. Ensure there is no residue left behind
  • Place a clean towel on a flat surface and lay the wig on top. Gently pat the wig dry with the towel to remove excess water. Avoid twisting or wringing the wig, as this can cause damage to the fibres.
  • Place the wig on a wig stand or wig head to air dry. Avoid using heat sources such as hair dryers, as synthetic fibres can melt or become damaged at high temperatures. Allow the wig to dry completely before wearing or styling.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Store your wig on a wig stand or wig head when not in use to help maintain its shape.
  • Avoid exposing your wig to heat sources such as ovens, stoves, or overhead heating, as synthetic fibres as heat can damage the fibres.
  • Avoid brushing or combing your wig while it is wet, as this can cause breakage!

Washing a synthetic wig may seem daunting at first, but with the right techniques and a little patience, it's easy to keep your wig looking fresh and fabulous. By following this step-by-step guide and incorporating regular maintenance into your routine, you can enjoy your synthetic wig for many wears to come. Remember, a clean wig is a happy wig!
