Spring Cleaning -

Taking the best care of your hair

Written by Key Contributor Emma

The weather may need a little reminder that Spring is now here, but the signs of brighter days being on the horizon are starting to appear; the daffodils are out, the days are getting longer and we’re all thinking about the inevitable Spring clean. So, this Spring let’s turn some attention to our hair care, here are some of our top tips for a healthy hair Spring clean:

Clean those hairbrushes – no judgement as I’m pretty sure we’re all a little guilty of this one, but when did you last clean your hairbrush?  (And I don’t mean just empty the hair either!) Your hairbrush works it’s magic through your hair, from root to tip, so having a clean base is important to avoid a build-up of dulling or irritating bacteria that is then recycled through our hair every time we brush.

Pillowcases – much like the brushes, to avoid a build-up of the wrong kind of bacteria, make sure you change your pillowcase regularly to keep a nice clean environment for your scalp and hair.  If you’re looking for a Spring clean treat, then why not consider a nurturing silk pillowcase. Please see the fabulous blog on this in our series.

Hairdryer filter – whilst we’re on a spring clean roll, let’s get the hairdryer filter cleaned.  Filters are there to ensure unwanted dirt is kept away from the functioning elements of the dryer, so we want them clear to allow it to do its best job for our locks.

Have a product clear out – check those dates, do you have a hair product that’s been lurking in your shower, drawer, or cabinet for a while now.  One of those products you only use occasionally so is standing the test of time?  Well, all products have a shelf life, for very good reason, so this spring just take some time to check the dates or how long the product should be kept once opened.  If it’s out of date or over the time since opening (also a good idea to have a little record on products that don’t get used often to ensure you know how long ago they were opened) then it’s time to clear them out.  It’s easy to hang onto things but since the ingredients change over time and could potentially damage your hair rather than do the positive job they were purchased for, it’s important to replace them…which leads onto the last tip!

Treat yourself – one bonus of a spring clean is the fact that it leaves space for something new so why not treat yourself to a lovely new hair care product?  A wonder product here at Aderans Hair Centre is the nourishing and smoothing Pure Skin, Scalp & Hair Oil from our BAO-Med range.  A cuddle in a bottle for your scalp skin and hair.  We also have the All-In-One roller to stimulate healthy hair growth and the Hair Spa to give the scalp a thorough exfoliating refresh and its own Spring clean.

This Spring why not consider trying a new hair care regime, the saying goes that “March winds and April showers bring forth the May flowers” and just like those beautiful spring flowers and blooms need a well nurtured ecosystem to flourish, our hair needs all the elements to align for healthy growth.  Sometimes, the advent of a new season and especially the spring can help us give fresh perspective to our hair loss concerns and allow us to take control.

If you’re feeling that your hair isn’t looking or feeling it’s best, you’re noticing an increase in shedding or hair loss then perhaps it’s time get some personalised advice and bespoke care tips.  Spring into action (sorry couldn’t resist) and get in touch with us here at Aderans today.  We can offer you a telephone/video call consultation, or you can come and visit us in person at one of our friendly centres to find out what is available.

In the meantime, after your Spring cleaning, why not consider some of these options for a Spring Refresh:

A new style or wig refresh – time to trim away those lacklustre dead ends or go for a completely fresh new style, if you’re a wig wearer then maybe it’s time for a wig refresh or time to try some new styles this spring from the ever-changing ranges available.

Washing regime – it’s recommended that hair is washed every 2-3 days to ensure the scalp and hair are kept clean.  Incorporating a hair mask, deep cleanser or scrub into your weekly regime could help boost the condition of your scalp and hair for a spring refresh.

The right products - are you using the right products for your scalp/hair?  Is it time to try a new product?  It’s definitely a good time to check the product you are using is right for you.  It’s also good to note that as our hair changes it can be necessary to change the products we use to ensure they’re specific for our hair.

Take a break from the heat – heat damage can seriously impact the appearance of our hair so why not lower the heat on your dryer this Spring, step away from the straighteners/heat styler and go for the on trend naturally groomed look.

We hope the brighter days are just around the corner and we hope you have enjoyed this blog, fingers are firmly crossed for some warm days and blue skies very soon!
