How To Survive The

Heat In A Wig

The summer brings heat, and heat and wearing wigs causes a headache. Whilst it is lovely to dress a wig up with headband (I purchased 3 yesterday) this can only add to the burden of weight and potential tightness across the temples. I did my research and only purchased headbands that were light and comfortable, they have satin bands on the underside and sit rather than hold into place. I am so pleased with them, 1 is green ribbed with a small top knot, 1 is dalmatian-like and ruffled and my favourite is a woven wicker-twisted headband.

I chose colours to go with my clothing pallet that would last any fashion trends, however there are so many more to choose from, florals, lemons, and limes and lots of pinks, they are inexpensive and would cheer anyone up and make a wig look rejuvenated instantly. This is one of the best things about customising your look with brands like Christine Headwear.

A headband can also give a wig wearer some comfort and reassurance

that the top front hairline and ear peaks are kept in place, with some simple styling of baby hairs to offer a more natural look and soften the front edge.

It can be possible to style up a longer length wig by tying into a low ponytail to lift off the nape and give that all important ventilation on a hot day. A simple material headband can also help keep the fibres and hairs away from the nape and I have done this many times, it also helps on windy days too, ensuring that wig does not blow off.

There are also speciality items that can help keep your head cool, some that were originally designed to go under hard hats to keep builders cool at work! Christine Headwear have the most comfortable bamboo liners which help to keep you comfortable under your wig and seem to manage to regulate your temperature.

The base of your wig can affect how much ventilation you have or how breathable your head can be, in the summer wefted wigs are quite often the right option.

I have said it before and I apologies for repeating myself, but I think it is important that what is next to your head is more critical than what others see, if you are not comfortable you cannot enjoy your day and function without being distracted. Of course, if the outer side looks bangin’ too, well then winner winner, cheesing all day long!

Hats – I nearly forgot! Why not try a lovely big sun hat and a big pair of glasses as when you are out and about who needs to know who you are? And having Alopecia has got to have some positives. Pop on a comfortable scarf, big pair of earrings and away you go. There are so many options to looking great and feeling good and keeping cool, so get creative and get out there!

Take care and please stay safe.
